Many people think that you have to be an adult, or at least 12 years old, before you can learn to scuba dive. The good news is that this isn’t true. At Oceans 5 Gili Air, children can start their SSI Open Water Diver course from the age of 10.

The SSI Open Water Diver course is designed to introduce young divers to the underwater world in a safe, fun, and educational way. Our experienced instructors work in small groups, giving every student the attention they need to build confidence and develop their diving skills.
Safety always comes first. The course is adapted to the student’s age and experience, ensuring that every child learns at a comfortable pace while having an unforgettable adventure.

Meet Dory and Nemo!
What makes learning to dive even more exciting? Seeing your favourite movie characters in real life!
During your Open Water course, there’s a great chance you’ll encounter:
- Clownfish—better known as Nemo—living among colourful sea anemones.
- Blue Tang—the famous Dory—swimming along the coral reefs.
For many children, spotting Nemo and Dory underwater is a magical moment that they’ll never forget. It’s one thing to watch them in a movie, but it’s something completely different to see them in their natural habitat.
And of course, the Gili Islands are also famous for their friendly sea turtles, making almost every dive a memorable experience.
Learn in Small Groups
At Oceans 5 Gili Air, we believe every student deserves personal attention. That’s why we teach our Open Water courses in small groups with a maximum of four students per instructor. This allows our instructors to focus on every diver’s comfort, safety, and progress throughout the course.
