To enroll in a the course (or Junior Open Water course), you must be a minimum of 10 years old. You need sufficient swimming skills and want to be in suitable physical health. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary.

The PADI Open Water Diver course at Oceans 5 Gili Air is the perfect way to begin your scuba diving journey, offering a structured program in three key stages.
The first stage, Knowledge Development, can be completed online, independently, or in a classroom setting, allowing you to learn the fundamental principles of scuba diving at your own pace. This ensures that you fully understand important concepts such as dive theory, safety procedures, and equipment use.
The second stage involves Confined Water Dives, typically held in a pool, where you will practice essential scuba skills like buoyancy control, regulator use, and mask clearing in a controlled, safe environment. These skills are crucial for building your confidence before venturing into open water.
Finally, the course concludes with Open Water Dives, where you will apply the skills you’ve learned while exploring the vibrant underwater world around the Gili Islands. These dives provide an unforgettable experience as you discover the local marine life and get a taste of real-world diving.
If your schedule is limited, Oceans 5 also offers the PADI Scuba Diver course. This course is a great alternative, taking just two days to complete, compared to the 3.5 days required for the full Open Water Diver course. While shorter, the Scuba Diver course still covers essential skills and knowledge, allowing you to dive up to 12 meters under the supervision of a dive professional. It’s an ideal option for those looking for a quicker route to experiencing scuba diving around the Gili Islands!

Starting your PADI Open Water Course at Oceans 5 Gili Air offers a unique, personalized diving experience. Small groups, with a maximum of four students per instructor, ensure individual attention and support. Oceans 5 Gili Air provides top-notch facilities, including spacious pools for safe skill development before ocean dives. The instructors, trained by in-house Course Director Sander Buis, are experienced and passionate about teaching. Oceans 5 has a family-like atmosphere, making you feel supported throughout the course and beyond. Our dive instructors are all experienced Instructors trained at our dive resort by our course director. They are multilingual and are covering the following languages: English, Dutch, French, Spanish and Indonesian. Not only do we instructors who are speaking these languages but we have also all the training materials in these languages.
After you are certified as an Open Water Diver you can explore the underwater world with a dive buddy to a depth of 18 meters. The Gili Islands are a perfect place where you can spot Turtles, Clownfish, Sharks, Moorish Idols and more beautiful marine life. The diving is easy and all dives are drift dives. It is a place where open water divers can get more experience before they can head off to Komodo or Lembongan. You will dive in small group, like during your diving course, with an experienced local guide. Our guides have more than 1000 dives each around Gili Air. Better guides are hard to get!
