There is no minimum amount of ITC candidates required to have the SSI Instructor Examination (IE) on Gili Air. Having the IE in your home environment offers numerous advantages. Candidates will be familiar with the facilities, the pool, and the open water training site, which helps reduce stress and allows for better preparation. Additionally, this arrangement saves significant time, eliminating the need to travel to another location, enabling candidates to focus entirely on performing their best during the examination.

The SSI Instructor Training Course (SSI ITC) conducted at Oceans 5 is designed for intimate learning experiences with small student groups. This ensures that you receive ample individual attention from our Instructor Trainers, Sander Buis, Warren Beyers and our team of Assistant Instructor Trainers.

We are proud to offer total of 9 SSI ITC sessions in 2026. Each led by Instructor Trainer Sander Buis and Warren Beyers. The SSI ITC Indonesia program hosted at the Gili Islands spans 16 days, providing comprehensive training and certification. Language barriers are not a concern as our instructor trainer is proficient in English, Dutch, German, and Indonesian, accommodating diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Prerequisites for the SSI IDC Gili Islands:

Minimum Age

To join the Instructor Training Course, you’ll need to be 18 years old or above. This is the standard for all professional scuba programs around the world.

Minimum Logged Dives

You should have at least 60 logged dives and 40 hours underwater before starting the course.
To take the Instructor Examination, you’ll need 100 logged dives with at least 65 hours of bottom time.

If you’re a little short on dives when you arrive—don’t worry! We’ll help you build them up as part of your instructor training package here on Gili Air.

You’ll also need to have completed the Enriched Air Nitrox specialty at student level.

Required Certifications

Before starting the course, you should already be a certified Divemaster (SSI or any recognised agency) and have completed React Right or a similar first-aid course that includes oxygen provider training within the last 24 months.

Medical Statement

All candidates need to be medically fit to dive. A valid diving medical, signed by a doctor within the last 12 months, is required before joining the program.

SSI Divemaster Instructor Internship

The SSI Divemaster Instructor Internship at Oceans 5 Gili Air offers newly certified instructors the opportunity to continue their diving education after completing the SSI Instructor Examination. Over four days, participants can engage in a comprehensive SSI Divemaster Instructor Internship that covers five SSI Instructor Specialties, including the required 3 instructor specialties: Deep Diving, Navigation and Night and Limited Visibility. Led by our SSI Instructor Trainers Sander Buis and Warren Beyers, who can teach up to 24 different SSI Instructor Specialties, the program includes detailed explanations of instructor manuals, in-depth theoretical knowledge, and practical dive conducts. By acquiring five instructor specialties, participants significantly enhance their employability as dive instructors, positioning themselves as highly qualified professionals in the diving industry.
